179503 | ![]() | No cycle path to Port of Cairnryan. I've had to push my fully laden touring bike along the overgrown coastal path to the ferry several times to avoid the lethal stretch of road between where the existing cycle path ends, to the ferry terminal. Please, please sort this Dumfries and Galloway Council. Thanks. | Cycleway: Problem cycleways |

174653 | ![]() | At @Sustrans we don’t fly. My trip Belfast was bike-train-ferry-bike. Worked well but with two major failings: train arrival/departure Stranraer out of synch with ferry sailings. Cycle path to Cairnryan stops halfway to ferry. Need improved to offer seamless low carbon transport. t.co/nrExptvhPJ | Cycleway: Problem cycleways |
167133 | ![]() | Midwife, mother of three killed www.scotland.police.uk/what-s-happening/news/2021/april/appeal-following-fatal-crash-on-a710-near-southwick-dumfries/ According to that page: Appeal following fatal crash on A710 near Southwick, Dumfries Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses after a fatal crash near Dumfries. The incident happened at around 1.05pm on Sunday, 11 April, 2021 on the A710 near Southwick. A white Peugeot van travelling west was involved in a crash with a cyclist riding a black Trek bicycle which was heading east at Southwick Bridge. Emergency services attended and 44-year-old Helen Renton from Dumfries was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin has been informed. The driver and passenger from the van were both uninjured. The road was closed for approximately 9 hours for collision investigations to be carried out at the scene. Sergeant Leigh McCulloch from Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit based in Lockerbie said: “Tragically as a result of this crash the cyclist has lost her life and our thoughts at this time are with her family and friends. “Several people stopped to help at the scene and our inquiries continue to establish what happened. I’d ask anyone who saw the crash to get in touch with officers as a priority to help our investigation. “I’d ask anyone who was recording with dash cam on the A710 who may have captured either the van or bicycle prior to the crash, to check their systems and provide officers with any relevant footage as soon as possible.” Those with information should report this to Police Scotland on 101 and quote incident number 1688 of 11 April 2021. 147382 | ![]() | The A714 truck road is narrow along this section, quite hilly, with bends and it passes through a wooded area. So line of sight is poor, and being on the Colvend coast it has heavy holiday traffic levels at peak season, especially caravans. Google maps (street view) show tyre encroachment onto the verge especially on the coast side (south side) which indicates that the highway at this point is too narrow for present use. Cycling along this stretch I have found that vehicles are so intent on overtaking me that they overtake then slam on their brakes just in front on me because before committing to overtake they have not paid sufficient attention to oncoming traffic. | Cycleway: Problem cycleways |
147257 | ![]() | In very dry conditions this N7 cycleway through the Cally Estate en-route to Gatehouse is rideable. However in wet conditions the surface turns into a slimy paste and becomes dangerous. Furthermore mud picks up easily on tyres and clogs mudguards. So in wet or winter conditions one is forced to avoid this section of the N7 cycle route and go along the Enrick Burn Rd. (Girth) to its junction with the A75, then go eastwards along it then turn left on the B727 and enter Gatehouse from the east along it. The tip along the double lane section of the A75 is very dangerous for cyclists especially when convoys of trucks are overtaking each other going eastwards. | Cycleway: Problem cycleways |
147255 | ![]() | There have been recent property developments adjacent to the track that the forms part of the N7 cycleway to Ann St, Gatehouse (where the Masonic Arms is). During the development it appears that this section of track was topped with very coarse, loose aggregate (approx 50mm x 25mm size) - which has not been compacted. This makes it very dangerous for cycling and very uncomfortable as one gets bounced around and it is easy to lose control when the front wheel hits a large stone. Does the dressing on the track comply with the planning consent conditions when permission for the developments were given? The cycle route, I assume, should have been considered when development consent given? | Cycleway: Problem cycleways |
147250 | ![]() | Access onto the N7 cycle route cycleway, formed from the disused railway line, to the north of Creetown, just before the A75, is very steep - I found I had to dismount to climb up it on a dry summers day. In icy or wet I assume it will be very dangerous - especially to cyclists coming south. | Cycleway: Problem cycleways |
